Step 1
Preparing the ground is the first step. You will need to remove all debris, grass, and stones, and compact the soil to achieve an even surface.
You may be required to support a hardcore compacted layer structure depending on the project.
If you’re worried about damp rising into your structure, you may want to install a waterproof membrane.
Step 2
Next, you will need to construct your formwork. This frame will be used to create the finished slab form. It will remain in place till the concrete is fully cured.
Wooden shapes or frames must be sturdy and level. The wood you use to build the slab needs to be thick enough and as deep as it will be.
If you need reinforcement, you can lay steel mesh on the form.
You will need to ensure that the edges of your building are square and straight if you plan to build next to an existing structure. Use a rope line or a laser to align your formwork with the existing structure.
Use a spirit-level to ensure that the surface is level.
Step 3
If you’re not sure of the type or quantity you need, placing a concrete order may be difficult. Consult a professional to help you determine the thickness of your slab and the type of concrete you need. For Concrete Gloucester, visit www.monstermixconcrete.co.uk
Step 4
Prepare your site for delivery once you have placed your order.
Remove any obstacles or debris from the path, create safe ramps for any steps and fill any cracks or holes that may cause problems.
You will need enough parking space for the concrete pumps and mixers if you have hired one to speed up your work. The mixer vehicle is approximately 11 meters in length. With the pump, this space is increased by 20 meters or four car-lengths.
