The Importance of Keeping Physically Active and Healthy During Retirement

Retirement is a big life change, and there are lots of things that we often do when we retire to help us adjust to that new phase in life. Whether you are planning to take up a new hobby or learn something new, or want to move to a new property that is more suited to your newly retired lifestyle like these park homes Gloucestershire.

Something else that is beneficial about retirement is that we have more time to focus on what matters to us and one of the most important if not the most important thing is of course our health. Taking care of your health throughout retirement will enable you to enjoy your retirement years to the fullest for longer.

Exercise is something that is a really important part of good health. Getting plenty of exercise especially in your older years helps to keep the body moving correctly and reduces the risk of developing many health conditions that are related to lack of mobility such as joint pain and arthritis.

It also reduces the risk of you having a fall and if you were to have one increases the odds of you having a short recovery time.

Exercise is also hugely important in order to keep yourself mentally healthy. When we exercise it helps the brain to feel happier and releases chemicals into the body that make us feel more energised and motivated – often the hardest part of exercising is getting the motivation to do it in the first place, but you often find that once you have started you feel much better and have much more energy than you realised!

Exercising also helps to boost the immune system and helps to keep chronic illnesses at bay or reduces your chances of ending up with a chronic health condition. As we get older it is really important to be more mindful of the ways that we can improve our health.

There are lots of different activities that you can do to help keep you fit and mobile – joining a sports team is a good thing to do, as well as walking, swimming and hobbies around the home such as gardening.
