Going Hiking? Get the gear right!

Estimated read time 2 min read

You might be planning some big walks and hikes once we can do so again and it’s vitally important that you have the right kind of gear set up for it. It’s very tempting to just get in the car and go but before you do it’s wise to make sure you have the right can of gear for the wanderings. Camping Shops Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England will have what you need but why wait? Go to https://basecamp.ie/ to have a look at some of the things that you will need. Here are a few pointers on the items that everyone needs in their walking gear.

  1. Map or GPS system. Local knowledge is one thing but if you are going to be trekking further afield you will need to have a good idea of what you are up against. The map remains a popular way of getting about even if it is a bit “analogue” compared to a GPS tracker that can tell you where you are, how far you’ve walked and also where you are heading for.
  2. Refreshments. If you’re clever you can plan a walk that takes in a pub, or two along the way, or a handy coffee shop. Even so it’s a good idea to have a fair bit of water or juice in the back pack or and maybe a flask of something warming as well.

  1. Snacks for the journey. Having a few chocolate bars and healthy snacks is also a great addition. You might even have space for some traditional Kendal Mint Cake.
